Did You Ever Think Pets Could Damage Your Home Pipes?

May 7, 2021 by chorton Leave a Comment

Pets are an excellent addition to any home, but if you’re not careful, they may also be the origin of some pricey plumbing repairs.

Your pet will require a bath from time to time. But it is best to do this outside whenever possible. Besides preventing your bathroom from turning into a mess, this keeps pet hair from the drains. Losing fur can quickly clog your plumbing. If your pet spends a lot of time outdoors, there may be a good deal of dirt or mud on them. This muck can mix with the pet hair and generate a tough clog.

Flushing cat litter is a big NO! Some cat litter claims to be secure to flush down the toilet, the fact remains that any kind of cat litter is much better disposed of in the garbage. Flushing cat litter can cause a congestion that is almost as hard as concrete.

Cats and dogs are curious creatures, especially when they’re young. They may chew on things merely to find out what they are, and that includes any exposed plumbing in and around your residence. Cover up exposed pipes to keep your inquisitive pets from biting into it.

Some dogs like to dig. If your puppy is an energetic digger, track where they dig in your lawn. It’s possible for the dog to dig down to underground plumbing. If they hit the buried pipes in your yard, they might cause some serious damage. Consider having a plumbing professional come along and indicate where your lines have been situated if your dog digs a lot. If you are able to, fence off those areas so your dog can not reach them.

Ensure that your pets have plenty of water. If their own water bowl is empty, then they might go looking for another place to drink. Many pets wind up drinking out of the bathroom. You’ll want to avoid that since the products used to clean the toilet could be poisonous for them. If they can not get water from their bowl or the toilet, they may try to get it from where they can smell or feel water, and that may lead them back to chewing on your plumbing. Make sure their water bowls stay full to prevent these problems.

Your pet may potentially cause critical damage to your pipes or to themselves. Try avoiding these plumbing problems and protect your pets.

Make Your Safe For Pets

March 30, 2021 by chorton Leave a Comment

Whether you have cats or dogs — or maybe both — in your house,  you want to keep them safe, healthy and happy. And your home extends to your yard. It is important to consider the common hazards to pets outside your home and learn what you can do to make your yard safe. Following are ideas to get you started.

Remove Dangerous Tools

Dogs can be curious and can easily get into the tools you leave out in the yard. Make a space to properly store items that you would use for gardening or lawn maintenance so that your dogs can stay safe. Keeping these tools in a shed, garage or basement is a good first step.

Avoid Toxic Plants

Many plants are toxic to dogs and cats. Avoid planting these plants where your pets might decide to snack on them. Some popular but dangerous plants include the following:

  • Lilies
  • Begonia
  • Chrysanthemum
  • Daffodil
  • Iris
  • English ivy

Check with your local nursery to identify plants that are safe for your pets.

Remove the Dangers of Fleas and Ticks

Fleas and ticks pose a dangerous health threat to your dogs and cats. Make sure your pet is on a preventative medication if they will be outside. You also can restrict the habitats for fleas and ticks by removing long or dry grasses and keeping the lawn well maintained.

Install a Fence

The surrounding neighborhood also can pose hazards. Cars, other dogs and even some humans can pose additional threats to your pets. Installing a fence can give your dogs a place to exercise without the dangers of escaping or getting lost.

Build a Catio

The safest place for a cat may be indoors. But if you want to give your cats an outdoor experience, consider building a catio. This is a completely enclosed outdoor structure with plenty of places to climb that will enrich your cat’s experience while also keeping them safe from predatory animals, cars and feline diseases.
